WAYS TO SHOW SUPPORT THAT YOU STAND "TOGETHER WITH ISRAEL":

To Support the Missing Soldiers:

United Jewish Communities (UJC) and the Jewish Federations of North America, along with a consortium of other Jewish organizations, are circulating a petition demanding the immediate release of three Israeli soldiers and reserve officers abducted by terrorist organizations last summer - Udi Goldwasser, Eldad Regev, Gilad Shalit. The petition, to be presented to United Nations Secretary General Ban ki-Moon, President George W. Bush, and high-level administration and congressional officials, is part of a major public awareness and advocacy campaign, by freethesoldiers.org, to secure immediate release of the Israelis. The petition, initiated by the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland, and the dog tags project, initiated by the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, were introduced at the 2006 UJC General Assembly in November. A website, www.freethesoldiers.org, allows members of the public to view and sign the petition and to order dog tags. Also at the site is information on the missing Israelis and additional advocacy tools, such as letters to members of Congress, a prayer for release, and study guides for parents and children. The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism is supporting this effort with UJC and the Jewish Federations of North America.

More Info:

Honor the heroism of the three Israelis kidnapped this summer, and those who are still Missing in Action, and that of their families: This summer, Gilad Shalit, a 19-year-old with a shy smile, was kidnapped by Hamas near Gaza; Ehud Goldwasser, a 31-year-old engineer, and Eldad Regev, a 26-year-old pre-law student, were kidnapped by Hezbollah. Their pain - and their families' suffering - is our pain. Our worlds will not be complete, our holidays not fully joyous, until they come home - and we have not done enough for them. These three families share a unique bond of anguish with the families of Ron Arad, Zachary Baumel, Zvi Feldman, and Yehuda Katz, who have been missing since the 1980s. Write your representatives demanding information and action.

Ideas on How to Help Bring the Soldiers Home from the American Zionist Movement

Bring Israel's Soldiers Home Now Materials Go to Campaign Materials
Read the Soldiers' Stories

Do not let Israel's soldiers be forgotten.

There are things you can do:

Hold a Public Rally
Make placards with pictures of the abducted soldiers. Remind people that their abduction was the provocation that started the recent hostilities. Set up tables where people can sign petition calling for international help in securing their return.

Do not not forget the missing soldiers from previous years. Their families and nation are still waiting. Remember Ron Arad (downed over Lebanon in 1986); Zachary Baumel, Zvi Feldman, and Yehuda Katz (captured in tank battle in Lebanon in 1982); Guy Hever, kidnapped in the Golan Heights (1997)

Wear a Dog Tag

Show your solidarity with the abducted soldiers by wearing a dog tag with their names. When people ask you about the dog tag, tell the story of how Gilad Shalit was taken by HAMAS and Goldwasser and Regev were abducted by Hezbollah. Distribute the dog tags at rallies, at your schools and to friends. Each comes with a chain. To purchase dog tags go to
the Zionist Store.

Write a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and call for UN assistance is securing the release of these hostages. You can also ask the Secretary General to ensure that UN Resolution 1701 is fully enacted so that new arms are not brought into southern Lebanon and no more soldiers are killed, injured or abducted. Call upon the UN to ensure that Lebanon takes full responsibility for its southern border, prevents Hezbollah from acting as a state within a state in south Lebanon, and provides real security on Israel's northern border.

Plan a "Free the Soldiers" Bar or Bat Mitzvah

Your bar or bat mitzvah marks your acceptance of responsibility as a Jewish adult. What better way to underscore the significance of this special day than by using it to advocate for the release of fellow Jews, captured by terrorists while fighting to keep Israel safe? Here are some party ideas.

  • Use AZM Dog Tags as party favors.
  • Hand out Postcards which your guests can fill out and send to UN, Red Cross and US Department of State officials, demanding that they take action.
  • Print out and hang Posters that broadcast the message:

    "Bring Israel's Soldiers Home Now!"
